Tuesday. We’ve made it through Monday. And while the weekend is still pretty far off, it’s not as far as it had been. I’m starting to catch up on my sleep from the weekend, but I know it’ll still be a bit more of a process. To help keep me awake the rest of the time, I’m gonna listen to some gaming podcasts. Which ones? Glad you asked.
This week on the dial we’ve got: Guilds of the North Episode 5: Ratcatch those Exiles; The Polyhedron Collider Cast Episode 41: Hard City, Darwin’s Choice and Stuffed Fables; Playin’ and Slayin’ Episode 16: Brew City Brawl; The Offline Gamer Episode 29: The (Delayed) 2017 Kickstarter Awards!; Lords of the Dungeon 15: Good and Evil Mixed Parties and The Economy of Loot; The D6 Generation Episode 236: Video Game Update & Brook City; The Cardboard Herald Episode 79: Kwanchai Moriya Artist Extraordinaire; Singled Out Episode 67: Winning Irish Nationals With Charles Nurser Charles Nurser; Meeples & Miniatures Episode 247: Bag The Hun; Breathing Flames Episode 1: Games Are Great; SAGA THORSDAY Episode 88: Why do I play Saga?; and SAGA THORSDAY Episode 89: Battle Report – Last Romans vs Vikings – Battle for the Gardens.
Episode 5 of Guilds of the North is fresh out of the studio oven, ready for your listening pleasure. In this show, we cover large and chat about multiple topics, from the Ratcatchers Minor Guild to the new Exiles, with some Game Plan Deck, new licensed products, Organised Play rules and national championship talk in the middle. So sit back, relax, grab a paintbrush and enjoy the show!
Get the air horn ready, because it’s another episode of the Polyhedron Collider Cast. We start by comparing board game collection sizes with the Secret Cabal before we get excited by the new X-Wing games (well Steve does anyway). We then review Kickstarter Games Hard City and Darwin’s choice before talking about Stuffed Fables, Guards of Atlantis and Kickstarter stretch goals.
The guys discuss their experiences at the inaugural Brew City Brawl Age of Sigmar GT and sportsmanship in competitive wargaming. Besides covering what they’ve been playing, building and buying, Ty and Troy talk about what they’ve been reading in the BoD Library segment and Josh shares what he’s been watching. Finally in ‘Play It or Slay It’ they review Unlock.
Later than usual, in this shorter episode we bring you our Kickstarter Awards for 2017, as well as discuss some of the projects that have, for whatever reason, not arrived as planned…
In episode 15 the Lords take a question from a Cabalist regarding how their group handles mixing good and evil player characters in the same adventuring party. Then they discuss loot and rewards in role playing games and how it’s important to balance the economy in your games.
Adam and Brady Sadler, game designers of no small water, are in the 3rd chair!
Up first, the Sadlers are big video game fans so we catch up on the vid games that everyone has been enjoying lately and why we’re playing htem.
Later we dive into the many game projects that have involved the Sadlers including some of the latest hotness such as Brook City from Blacklist Games.
All that plus:
– Total Fan Girl
– Do You Ever Notice
– App of the Ep
– & More
If I could have all games illustrated by only 5 artists, I know for fact that Kwanchai Moriya would be the first one on that list. His illustrations incorporate wild, diverse styles with tons of personality, reflecting the very core nature of the game itself. So it should come as no surprise, I was a little starstruck in this one. We talk about how he got his big break, challenges, accomplishments, and all the rad stuff he has right around the corner.
In this episode Andrew and Jason talk to Charles Nurser Charles Nurser about his victory in the Irish Guild Ball championships.
In this episode the Meeples crew get together and catch up with what they have been up to in the past few weeks, including games they have played and miniatures they have painted.
Following that, join them in the confessional as they unburden their souls about what they’ve been buying recently.
Later in the show they delve into the Meeples Bunker archives to review the WW2 Air Combat game Bag The Hun from Too Fat Lardies
Finally, we have a brief chat about the recent announcement from Fantasy Flight Games about the second edition of the X-Wing Miniatures Game.
We hope you enjoy the show.
Welcome to the first installment of the Breathing Flames podcast, the biweekly official board game podcast of iSlaytheDragon! Why a podcast? Because we like the sound of our own voices. And because a certain dragon is forcing us. But enough about draconian overlords, in our inaugural episode we codify a definitive list of criteria for what makes a great game. Well, as definitive as a group of bumbling board game geeks can come up with. Enjoy!
